NEW YORK, July 17-- The number of COVID-19 cases in the United States surpassed 3.6 million on Friday, reaching 3,604,408 as of 12:34 p.m. local time (1634 GMT), according to the Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at Johns Hopkins University.

Meanwhile, the national death toll from the disease rose to 138,649, according to the CSSE.
