Macao's New Year custom is unique. Xie Zao is one of the most traditional Chinese customs preserved in Macao. On the 23rd of the 12th lunar month, it was sent to the kitchen god, which was called "Xiejiao" by Macao people. According to the Chinese tradition, the Macao people also use the kitchen candy to paste the mouth of the kitchen god, so as not to speak ill of him in front of the Jade Emperor. I saw a picture of Santa Claus in the kitchen of a Macao family in Macao flower street. It's strange that the picture of Santa Claus was pasted with a couplet saying "God says good things, return home and have good luck". Macao people's new year's day begins on the 28th of the 12th lunar month. In Cantonese, it is said that "Yifa" is popular. Most business owners invite their employees to have "reunion dinner" at the end of this year to show that they have good fortune and good luck. Macao's new year's flavor can be really felt on December 28. |
