BRATISLAVA, Feb. 17-- Slovakia's premier football league Fortuna Liga continued after the winter break with attractive match-ups. Trencin put on a high-scoring show against Michalovce and sent its opponents home with a shameful 8-1 defeat, switching fifth and eight positions in the league table as a result. 10th-ranked Sered managed to snap its four-game losing streak in a surprising 2-2 draw against fourth-ranked Ruzomberok. Fortuna Liga's biggest rivals Bratislava and Trnava met for the 155th time and split the points after a thrilling although goalless derby. After the first half of Trencin's match-up against Michalovce, the visitors still held a chance of success losing 1-2 but the floodgates opened in the second half and the home team's six consecutive goals left Michalovce down and out. 21-year-old Osman Bukari led Trencin's scoring with three goals, Ante Roguljic added two on a unique match of the 19th round and also the entire season. In a battle of two bottom-ranked teams, Nitra split the points with last-placed Pohronie after a goalless draw. The home team is starting a new chapter after new owners from Ukraine took over the team, bringing new coaches, players, and management on board. Ruzomberok was first to strike in Sered but Alexander Mojzis' quick double booking late in the first half meant that the visitors had to finish the game shorthanded. Sered entered the second act with a tying goal but Ruzomberok rallied and scored another go-ahead goal in the 68th minute only to see its efforts thwarted four minutes into the extra time when the 19-year-old substitute Matej Vuk tied the game once again to steal a point for the home team. |
