LONDON, Feb. 16-- Liverpool increased their lead at the top of the Premier League to 25 points and have now taken an incredible 76 points from a possible 78 after their 1-0 win away to Norwich City on Saturday afternoon. Sadio Mane capped a return from injury with his 100th goal in English football, with a 78th minute strike to cap a good day for Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, who also saw Naby Neita return to the side and Fabinho play half an hour just days before Liverpool face Atletico Madrid in the Champions League. Lukas Rupp had a great chance to put Norwich ahead in the 35th minute but opted to pass after rounding Norwich keeper Alisson and the chance was wasted. The win means Liverpool will be Premier League champions with just five more league wins. Toby Alderweireld scored at both ends and Son Heung-Min scored an injury-time winner as Tottenham won 3-2 away to Aston Villa. Alderweireld put into his own net in the ninth minute but equalized 19 minutes later and Son put Tottenham ahead in first-half injury time. Bjorn Engels' 53rd minute equalizer looked as if it had saved a point for Villa, but Son scored his second of the game with a right-foot shot from close to the penalty spot in the 95th minute to improve Spurs' chances of Champions League football next season. Arsenal produced their most convincing performance since Mikel Arteta took over as coach as they beat Newcastle United 4-0. |
