BERLIN, Dec 2-- Who is going to make the final decision? Bayern is currently trapped in a power struggle. Two fractions seem to battle it out. Former coach and influential club legend Jupp Heynckes favors current interim coach Hansi Flick as a permanent solution while Thomas Tuchel is said to be the first choice for the big answer. Karl-Heinz Rummenigge is step by step approaching the state of a lame duck, having announced his resignation end of 2021. Insiders speak of Oliver Kahn to soon getting involved. The former keeper is taking over Rummenigge's job in 2021 but will join the club in January 2020 to get familiar with procedures. So far, Kahn has avoided clear statements regarding his plans but is said to set a sign as soon as the right time has come. Rummenigge intends to leave a last exquisite farewell present behind. HANSI FLICK The hype around the 54-year-old could be more prominent as the former national team assistant is said to be a promising copy of Heynckes. The 74-year-old 2013 treble-winning coach praised Flick as the best choice. "Bayern can shape an era with him in charge," the 1974 world champion said, adding: "Hansi is a real coaching gem." Bayern keeper Manuel Neuer commented: "Flick is doing it like Heynckes." Meanwhile, the debate continues if Flick can satisfy the club's ambitious goals, such as to win the Champions League. |
