LONDON, Nov. 5-- Manchester City moved to the top of the Premier League with a two-point lead over Chelsea and Liverpool thanks to a 6-1 win over Southampton on Sunday afternoon. Pep Guardiola's side produced a polished performance, led by David Silva and Raheem Sterling to lead 4-1 at halftime and to show once again they are the team to beat in England. Chelsea moved into second place on goal difference as the much-criticized Alvaro Morata took advantage of the injury to Olivier Giroud with two goals in their 3-1 win over Crystal Palace. Pedro Rodriguez netted Chelsea's third goal to give the win a distinctly Spanish flavor. Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp complained about a first half goal incorrectly ruled out for offside in his side's 1-1 draw away to Arsenal, but can still feel satisfied that Liverpool retained their unbeaten record in one of the toughest away games they will face this season. Arsenal's Unai Emery can also reflect that his side performed well in a thrilling game and that they are unbeaten in their last nine league games. Their only defeats this season came against Manchester City and Chelsea in the opening matches of the season and the fact that Arsenal are now able to trade blows with Liverpool shows how they have improved since Emery's arrival at the Emirates Stadium. Tottenham moved above Arsenal into fourth place thanks to a 3-2 win away to Wolves, but were made to suffer in a game they had been leading 3-0 thanks to goals from Eric Lamela, Lucas Moura and Harry Kane. |
