SHANGHAI, March 4-- Authorities in Shanghai will begin recruiting volunteers for the second China International Import Expo (CIIE) next month. Currently, around 1.28 million people have registered as volunteers via an online application, according to the Shanghai municipal committee of the Communist Youth League. During the first expo, more than 34,000 volunteers took part in voluntary services in Shanghai, latest figures showed. Those born in the 1990s made up a majority of the volunteers. A total of 338 volunteers from Shanghai International Studies University provided interpretation, translation and concierge services during last year's expo. Last year, the first CIIE was held in Shanghai from Nov. 5 to 10 and concluded with deals worth about 57.83 billion U.S. dollars. The expo attracted 3,600 overseas companies. The second CIIE will be held in November 2019. |
