[其他] From the get go?

[复制链接]

Reader question:

Please explainget-goin this sentence: “This is why we conduct a detailed interview with all incoming clients because we want to position ourselves to win from the get go.”

My comments:

From the get gois the phrase in question.

Get gois an American expression meaningthe beginningand it is believed that this colloquialism was first popularized among black communities as a variation from the phraseget going”.

Which is more or less obvious, of course.

There are many ways to sayLets beginof course, such asLets go”, “Lets get started”, or simplyMoveorGo.”

Lets get goingis another one, as we often say: “Alright, everyones clear with their job. Lets do it. No more wasting time. Come on. Lets get going!”

Hence, “from the get gomeans simply from the beginning, or from the very start.

At any rate, rememberget goas short forget going”. It wont hurt.

This, by the way, reminds me of another similar American expression, “from the word go”, which, in fact, has the exact the same origin. “Gois the word we shout out aloud to get, say, a running race going. Therefore, the wordgobecomes the signal for something to get started.

Hence the expressionfrom the word go”, also meaning from the very beginning.
