  青岛市2017高考英语阅读理解选练(6)及答案(一轮)

  【广东省汕头市2017模拟】

阅读理解阅读下列四篇短文,从每题所给的四个选项(ABCD)中,选出最佳选项。Do you know of anyone who uses the truth to deceive(欺骗)?When someone tells you something that is truebut leaves out important information that should be includedhe can give you a false pictureFor examplesomeone might say, ''I just won a hundreddollars on the lottery(彩票).It was greatI took that dollar ticket back to the store and turned it in for one hundred dollars!".This guy's a winnerright? Maybemaybe notWe then discover that he bought$200 worth of tickets, and only one was a winnerHes really a big loser! He didn't say anything that was falsebut he left out important information on purposeThat's called a half-truthHalf truths are not technically liesbut they are just as dishonest

Some politicians often use this trickLets say that during Governor Smiths last termher state lost one million jobs and gained three million jobsThen she seeks another termOne of her opponents says, “During Governor Smiths termthe state lost one million jobs!” Thats trueHoweveran honest statement would have been,“During Governor Smiths term, the state had a net gain of two million jobs.”

Advertisers will sometimes use half-truthsIt's against the law to make false statements so they try to mislead you with the truthAn advertisement might say,''Nine out of ten doctors advised their patients to take Yucky Pills to cure toothache.'' It fails to mention that they only asked ten doctors and nine of them work for the Yucky Company
