2017高考英语阅读理解一轮限时训练题(10) 【广东省茂名市 Many of us mistakenly believe that it's wrong to think we have any good qualities. We may spend a lot of time blaming ourselves for our negative qualities, thinking that self criticism is the key to improving our performance. However, a constant focus on our supposed shortcomings can stop our efforts to make friends with other people. How can we believe that others could like us if we believe our inner being is flawed(有缺陷)? If someone seems to dislike you, the reason for that dislike might have little or nothing to do with you. The person who doesn't like you might be fearful, or shallow, or busy or shy. Perhaps you and that person are simply a mismatch for each other at this particular time. Don't take yourself out of the game by deciding that your flaws are bigger than your good qualities. In fact, some of the very qualities you consider to be flaws may be irresistible to someone else. For all the factors that might cause one person to reject you, there are at least as many factors that will work in your favor with someone else. You might be thirty pounds over your ideal weight, but you may have a wonderful laugh and a real enthusiasm for life. There are many people who dont mind your extra pounds. You may drive a shabby car, but you might be a great dancer and a loyal friend. There are people out there looking for loyalty, or fun, or sweetness, or wisdom, and the package it comes in is not important. If you are worried that you are not beautiful enough to attract friends, keep in mind that not everyone is looking for physical beauty in their friends. You can decide to feel inferior(自卑) because you don't have much money and you don't drive a nice car. You can believe that this is the reason that you don't have many friends in your life. On the other hand, if you are very wealthy you may be suspicious that everyone is after your money and that nobody really likes you as a person. The point is that you can focus on just about anything and believe it's the reason you do not have friends and cannot make any. 36. But roughly a year and a half ago, the country turned to a resource that exists in abundance across the region: the sun. Now Europelong dependent on Middle Eastern oil and Russian natural gashas begun to look toward the heat of the Sahara for some of its long-term energy needs. By 2050, roughly 15 percent of European energy could be produced by wind and solar-thermal(太阳能热) power in North Africa and parts of the Middle East, according to Dii, widely known as Desertec, a group of mostly European companies such as Siemens that are developing clean-energy technology in the region. Although the effortexpected to cost $510 billionis still in the early stage of development, analysts say Morocco has far more aggressive investment plans than its regional rivals(竞争对手) and is well positioned to become North Africas leading provider of renewable energy, especially solar-thermal. In 2008, when global oil prices hit record highs, Moroccowhich imports most of its powersaw energy costs nearly double, to roughly $9 billion annually. Soon after, King Mohamed VI issued a royal command making the development of alternative energy a top priority. He also put a legal framework in place to encourager European investment and has managed to limit instability in a region known for political confusion. Another advantage for Morocco: geography. The sun over the Sahara is far stronger than it is in Europe. But what distinguishes the country from its neighbors is that it is close to Spain. The two countries are separated by less than 16 km at some points, and theyre connected by an energy transmission line. Currently the line sends energy from Spain to Morocco, but it could work both ways, and analysts say the lines existence gives Morocco an advantage over its neighbors for access to the European market. Getting a position in that market may take some time, however, due to a shortage of funding. By 2020, Morocco hopes to invest several billion dollars in solar-thermal power and use to technology to greatly increase its energy production. But unlike, say, wind power, which is economically competitive with fossil fuels, solar-thermal often is not, despite financial support from various international institutions. Analysts say the costs of solar-thermal will come down, eventually. 1. The main purpose of the passage is to tell readers __________. We want to call our friends now, even if well see them in 10 minutes. Thenowculture is one of convenience, and lets face it, convenience can make our lives easier. Unfortunately, by gaining convenience, weve lost some of our patience. If youre like me, patience does not come naturally. Here are a few tips Ive learned along the way to cultivate more patience in my life: Ask yourself why youre in a hurry. If you feel rushed while going about your normal day, ask yourself why. Will the world end if you get home five minutes late? What if you stop to talk to the random people you meet each day? If you do stop to talk, youll be amazed how much more connected youll feel to your community. Hang around people who have patience. I had a lot less patience before I met my husband. Being around him daily has certainly given me a greater appreciation for the art of waiting. Hes not only a great example of someone who lives his life patiently, but he tells me if Im getting too anxious or impatient. If you dont know someone whos patient in your immediate circle of friends, take a class like yoga where meditation is part of the art. _____________________. Sometimes you can lose sight of long-term goals in the rush towards instant gratification. Most people trying to lose weight have a hard time cutting out sugary or carb-loaded foods completely. It helps to cut these lofty long-term goals into smaller chunks. To encourage weight loss, you can slowly cut back on your calorie intake or increase your exercise regimen each week. Whatever route you take, setting those little goals will help you achieve the big ones faster. Think of the things youve gained by being patient. When all else fails, I think of the good things that have happened in my life because I waited. Passing up on a fewso-sojob offers last year paved the way for me to land a job I really wanted. When you can think of positive outcomes that have come from waiting, it puts into perspective why its not always the best strategy to rush into things. 36. What does the author think of patience? A. A. analyzing causes B. giving examples C. describing process D. making comparison 【答案】【解析】B The way Westerners communicate tends to be relatively explicit and direct. In other words, Westerners tend to put most of their ideas and feelings into words, and then state these ideas and feelings clearly and openly. It is generally considered a good thing toget to the pointandsay what you mean,” and it is largely the speakers responsibility to ensure that his / her message is stated in a way that is clear and easy to understand. In contrast, Chinese people tend to communicate in a way that is more indirect and subtle. They often view direct, explicit communication as unsophisticated(不成熟的) or even rude. They are more likely to preserve good feelings and relationships by not saying something that might upset or offend another person. If a Westerner makes a request and a Chinese person responds by saying something likeIll think it over”, the Westerner may assume that there is a good chance that the answer will beyes”. In fact, there is a better chance that the implied answer isno”. One interesting example of the Western preference for very direct communication can be seen in what Western students are taught about how they should organize their writing. Writers are generally expected to state their point as clearly as possible, generally right at the beginning. Students are taught to begin paragraphs with atopic sentencethat states the point of the paragraph. Also, articles should generally begin with a brief statement of the points to be madeand also conclude with a review of those same points. In contrast, in Chinese writing it is more acceptable to build up to the point rather than announcing it right from the start, although it is also acceptable to state the point up front. It is important to note that Westerners are not all equally direct in their communication styles. For example, the direct communication style is more typical of Western men than of Western women. Furthermore, even in Western culture it is generally not considered good manners to communicate so directly that you hurt other peoples feelings, offend them, or create conflict. 5、What is the subject of the passage?
