The tourism boom in less developed countries is in essence an economic phenomenon. More precisely speaking, it falls in the category of markets, which can be explained with the theories about demanding and supplying. According to economists, the main reason is that the tourists from the developed countries desire to understand the culture and history of the less developed countries. The other reason lies in the fact that the less developed countries have what the tourists demand. In many developing countries where the civilization is not only ancient but also full of colors, because various industries develop at relatively slower speeds, landscapes, especially those in rural areas, are generally untouched by human hands and not stepped by human feet. Bearing this in mind, we are able to further discuss the consequences of the prosperity of tourism industry in the less developed countries. In this study, we dare not to view the complex with provincial bias. Rather we have to examine both the positive and negative influences with insights. On the one hand, the boom naturally brings about a large sum of revenue to the local governments or citizens, contributing to the development. But this is relatively a short-term advantage. On the other hand, in the long run, the local culture or idioms are vulnerable to the influences exerted by foreign elements, degrading or even ruining the local civilization. |
